This study was conducted in order to find out whether Social Networking sites (Facebook, MySpace, Xanga etc.) or Photo Storage Sites (Flicker, Photo bucket, etc) were used more often for online photo storage.
Our research question is, “Do DePaul students use Social Networking sites or Photo Storage Sites more often to store photos?”
We looked at whether or not people prefer to use online photo storage over offline storage, and if people still print photos to have tangible copies.
This study is relevant to the people running theses sites because the less popular sites could gain more information on methods of improvement when comparing their site to the more popular ones. It’s also relevant to inform others about various possibilities of storing photos. There is a possibility that site they may be storing photos on today may be gone tomorrow, just like in the case of Yahoo Photo’s that closed in 2007 (Yahoo Asks). Those that may not have their photos stored in another place may lose their pictures.
Overall, our findings are for the benefit of those who are interested in the results, for students to learn more about their photo storage habits, for students to learn about other methods of photo storage, and for the websites that can use the results to improve their methods (in order to attract more college students).
